What I do

I’m a freelance ornithologist with a particular interest in bird migration. My work spans field-based ecology, including surveys, bird ringing, and radio telemetry (via Motus), alongside Bayesian statistical analysis. My background in geography drives my interest in spatial processes and movement ecology. I prioritise robust, reproducible workflows and sound scientific practice, striving for research that is modest, open, reproducible, and fair. My computational work centres on literate programming using Quarto and probabilistic programming, primarily using Julia, R and Stan, and I’m a strong proponent of free and open-source software.

I’m also a keen birder with a penchant for warblers and chats, and an occasional sound recordist.
